I am excited to participate in the 2009 Fresno Swede Festival. Sure there are highbrow festivals such as Sundance, Caanes, and Tribeca, but only Fresno has a film festival solely devoted to Swedes.
Here's the 411: In the movie Be Kind, Rewind, the main characters worked at a video store and all the videos were accidently erased. The geniuses decided to remake all of the films on their own. They used homemade props and scenery. As you can imagine the result would be quite funny. Well, we here in Fresno decided to celebrate stupidity and introduce little (sometimes a lot) creativity to form/host a festival for Swede filmmakers.
Last year I "starred" in one Swede and also "produced" my own Swede. I've included them for your viewing pleasure (or pain).
The 2009 Fresno Swede Festival is Saturday, May 9th...information can be found at the Dumb Drum site...
I'll be there with the family. It's fun for all ages and all ages should get involved.
What better way for young people to get involved in filmmaking than to emulate their favorite movies? That's how most of us started anyway. Now here is a festival that celebrates that introduction to film.
I've never heard of this Swede phenomenon but I'm Intrigued and will surely be attending the festival next Saturday, May 9th at Corridor 2122 around 6pm (and bringing a few friends cause that's what cool people do).
